THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS

Formula E and Fantastic Four… UNITE!

Formula E is fusing motorsport and superpowers to celebrate the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, in cinemas NOW!

As part of the collaboration, The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ will be the Official Race Title Partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season finale, which will officially be named The 2025 Marvel Fantastic Four London E-Prix.

Marvel, Formula E and The Berry created an action-packed campaign, unveiling their blockbuster collab with The Fantastic Four. Set inside the iconic indoor circuit at Excel, the Gen3Evo car suited up in a custom made, Fantastic Four livery… before tearing up the track at full throttle. Drifting through smoke and scorched rubber, the car carves out a burnt tyre path, that ends in the reveal of a giant ‘4’ logo, burnt into the asphalt. A true superhero spectacle.

To bring this superhero-fuelled moment to life, The Berry collaborated closely with Formula E and Marvel, to ensure every move felt grounded in real-world physics. Making full use of the Gen3Evo’s four-wheel drive system, The Berry team choreographed a burnout sequence that smoked from all tyres. Controlled donut drifts, carve the iconic ‘4’ through tyre marks.

The result? A scorched piece of artwork even the Human Torch would be impressed by...

Rough around the edges, but unmistakably iconic, the burnt-in ‘4’ was designed to feel like it was ‘burnt’ with a human touch — authentic, realistic, and packed with energy. Purposefully imperfect, but precise enough to make Marvel fans do a double take… and ultimately LOVE the film and car livery!

Working from reference imagery, The Berry team meticulously recreated and crafted the car’s Fantastic Four livery, aiming not just for visual accuracy, but also for a sense of realism. The car was then fully rigged with four-wheel drive capability, setting the stage for a high-performance animation sequence with burnouts, drifts and dynamic choreography.

With the animation locked, the final step was bringing the burnout sequence to life through detailed smoke simulations in Houdini. Every drift and tyre spin was matched with dynamic plumes of smoke using real-world physics such as gravity, wind, turbulence and dissipation.

The team experimented with multiple settings to strike the right balance between realism and cinematic flair, ensuring the smoke felt heavy, reactive and full of momentum. Once dialled in, the simulations were prepared for lighting, rendering and compositing into the final shots.
